Millicent Redick
Sits on the HCC, CHC and CLDC Boards
Millicent Redick was born in Queens New York, and completed her high school education in Cleveland, Ohio. She returned to New York, married and began the nurturing of her two children in the Harlem community. During this time she decided to attend Baruch College where she received an Undergraduate Degree and a Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance at Baruch College.
After completing her coursework at Baruch, Millicent worked a for a host of political and community agencies in New York and New Jersey; some of which included Shadow Traffic, Councilmember Hilton Clark, Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger, and Harlem Churches for Community Improvement, and Corinthian Housing Development in Newark, NJ.
During her tenure at the Borough President’s office she developed a survey for residents of the Harlem community that addressed their banking needs. This survey was used to fund the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. Today, Harlem has changed immensely. More banks exist today in the Harlem community and housing continues to flourish.
She and other activists in the Harlem community began their lawsuits with banks during the 1990’s for redlining. This long and hard struggle proved that banks were needed by people who lived and worked in Harlem. The banking industry continues to invest in residential housing and businesses today. Millicent has been an active participant in issues in and around her community. She completed the negotiations for the Pathmark project in East Harlem, and presently is working with WEAC on environmental issues. Millicent is a member of the Harlem River Park task force for which they are planning the development of a park around the island of Manhattan. To date the park has been funded more than $2,000,000 for the development of bike paths, comfort stations, walkways and many other amenities that are environmentally friendly
