GIVING BRIGHT MINDS TOOLS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS
Entrepreneur Magazine in 2015 stated that “While society innovates, our K-12 schools have remained stagnant. As a result, they are not graduating the doers, makers and cutting-edge thinkers the world needs.”
In our after-school program, we are seizing the opportunity to teach young people the skills necessary to start and entrepreneurial endeavor. Entrepreneurship is the centerpiece of our program, as we look to foster creativity and inspire young people to create companies resulting in longstanding employment when able to craft their own careers.
“Entrepreneurship education benefits students from all socioeconomic backgrounds because it teaches kids to think outside the box and nurtures unique talents and skills. Furthermore, it creates opportunity, ensures social justice, instills confidence and stimulates the economy” (Rodov and Truong, 2015).
GIVING YOUTH OF COLOR ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
Students also have the opportunity to engage in a wide-range of activities connected to entrepreneurship to spark creativity and innovation including:
Mobile application development
Lastly, to prepare our 8th-grade students for entrance into high school, we conduct practice interviews, help construct essays, and organize test prep sessions for students.
Program hours are from 2:20 PM – 5:30 PM. Monday – Friday and Saturday’s 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
As a forward-thinking program promoting innovation, impactful action, and economic opportunity for youth of color, we support the academic curriculum of Middle School 129 scholars with project-based learning in partnership with the “Schools Out NYC” (SONYC) Program funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
